Chantal Sutherland Hot Chick of the Afternoon (Pictures)

Today's hot chick of the afternoon is Chantal Sutherland.  Chantal is a Canadian model, television personality and jockey in North American Thoroughbred horse racing.  So I just saw this chick on ESPN and she apparently posed on the horse for a magazine as you can see in the picture above.  Had to post her.  Easily the hottest horse jockey of all time.  Pretty much the Danica Patrick of horse racing.  Check out her pics below.

History of Cricket

The origins of cricket are obscure, and there are several theories on how it started. One is that shepherds used to play it - one would stand in front of the wicket gate to the sheep fold, and another would bowl a stone or something at him, and he would have to hit it with his crook, which was known as a cricket. Other theories are that it derives from a game called club-ball, or a game played in churchyards...

The first reference to cricket being played is thought to be in 1300, between Prince Edward and his friend Piers Gaveston and the first recorded match took place at Coxheath in Kent in 1646. The first match between counties on 29th June 1709, when Surrey played Kent at Dartford Brent.

The earliest known cricket photographs were taken in 1857, by Roger Fenton at the Artillery Ground, when the Royal Artillery played Hunsdonbury.

As well as shepherds' crooks, early bats were clubs and sticks. These gave way to long, thin battes, which looked a bit like straightened-out hockey sticks, because the ball was bowled under-arm, and the batters swung their bats like clubs!!

By the 18th century, the bat had developed into a longer, heavier, curved version of the one we know now, carved out of a single piece of wood.

Today's bat was invented around 1853, with the blade made of willow, and a cane handle, which is layered with strips of rubber, tied with twine, and covered with rubber to make a grip. The 'V' shaped extension of the handle into the blade is the splice. The early balls were stones and other missiles. Rather dangerous really, and not surprising that someone came up with an alternative! They're now made of cork, and covered with hand-stitched leather quarters dyed red.

The wicket - the stumps are the three posts. Originally there were two, and at one point, four. The size has varied too - in the 17th century, were up to two metres wide!! The bails are the two bits of wood on the top, and if they fall off, it's all over!!

Sachin Tendulkar retires from ODI cricket

Source:-Yahoo.com
Sachin Tendulkar announced his retirement from One-day Internationals today, and with it comes to an end one of the memorable eras in world cricket.

The genius batsman from Mumbai ends his career with 49 hundreds, 18,426 runs, 463 appearances, and 96 half-centuries — all world records earned over a massive 23-year-long career — but he will value his 2011 World Cup win above all these.

Tendulkar, who will turn 40 in April, exited the 50-over-format quietly. The Board of Cricket Control in India’s website announced that Tendulkar had conveyed his decision to president N. Srinivasan.

“I have decided to retire from the One Day format of the game,” his statement published on BCCI.tv said.

“I feel blessed to have fulfilled the dream of being part of a World Cup wining Indian team. The preparatory process to defend the World Cup in 2015 should begin early and in right earnest. I would like to wish the team all the very best for the future. I am eternally grateful to all my well wishers for their unconditional support and love over the years.”

The Press Trust of India quoted a source as saying that Tendulkar had gone off the radar after the Nagpur Test, where India surrendered the Test series to England.

"Once he was back in Mumbai after the Nagpur Test, he switched off his cell phone and became incommunicado for at least three days. The only possible way to contact him was through Anjali's (wife) number as he wanted some time to himself," the source, said to be a close friend of Tendulkar said on the condition of anonymity.

"By Friday night, he had intimated his family and close group of friends that he wants to quit from ODIs. Accordingly, he informed BCCI president N Srinivasan last night about his decision to retire from ODIs making it clear that he doesn't want to play in the ODIs against Pakistan," the source added.

Tendulkar’s last ODI was against Pakistan in the Asia Cup in Mirpur, Bangladesh. He had scored a quick 52 in that game, as India chased down a massive score of 329.

The announcement of his retirement was somewhat surprising. Earlier this week, sections of the media had reported that Tendulkar had made himself available for selection for the upcoming games against Pakistan.

Tendulkar has been going through the poorest form of his long, illustrious career and there have been many calls in the cricket press for him to announce his retirement from cricket. He finally chose to take the dignified way out.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, former selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth reacting to Sachin's ODI retirement, said: “I am shocked. Didn't have any indication earlier about Sachin's decision to quit. He is leaving on a high.”

India’s performance since the World Cup win has been undoubtedly its poorest in many years. The period has also coincided with Tendulkar’s poorest run in a long time. In 30 Test innings, he has averaged 31.76 with a highest score of 94. In ODIs, those numbers are poorer: 333 runs in 11 innings opening the batting, averaging 30.27, with one painstakingly compiled hundred against Bangladesh.

Those numbers pale in comparison to what Tendulkar had achieved in the years gone by, and it could be argued that Tendulkar is not leaving on a high.

The upcoming Test series at home against Australia could possibly be his last — unless he can recreate the magic of old and prolong his playing days a little more.

Trick shot keeper goes viral

A US goalkeeper has become an online star with YouTube videos of amazing trick shots.

UNC Asheville keeper Lassi Hurskainen has just released his second clip, reports Newslite.

Tricks include hitting a crossbar from almost unbelievable distances, kicking a ball into a bucket on the back of a speeding golf cart and saving a ball over the bonnet of a car.

He also apparently manages to hit two crossbars with the same shot by bouncing the ball from one to the other.

Top 10 Olympic Medal Winning Countries

The Olympics is a widely known event that has been held in several countries over the years and has made for itself a niche in the sporting world that is surpassed by no other. Each country since the inception of the Olympics has strived to be able to host it and also to win the most medals in the cut throat competition.  It is a matter of national pride if any competition within the event is won by a certain country’s representative. The wide TV and press coverage alone makes it an extremely important event no matter what country any sports enthusiast is in. Below is a detailed list of all the countries that have made it to the top ten as far as medal winning is concerned.

The United States Of America

The USA is right at the top of the list with having participated in every session of the Olympics since its inception. They also have the best track record to date. According to record they have only ever missed one Olympics which was in 1980 and this session was boycotted due to certain reasons. There is a committee in the USA that deals solely with its participation in the Olympics and it is known as USOC or The United States Olympic Committee. American participants are recorded to have won due to their own effort and talent about 2298 medals (summer games) and 253 (winter Olympics). Swimming and athletics have been America’s strongest sports throughout their participation and the maximum medals have been won for these.

Soviet Union

Following shortly after is the Soviet Union that has won a staggering total of 1204 medals. Their first appearance in the Olympics games was in 1952 and they have chosen to participate on quite a few occasions after that. They have often ranked either first or second in the lineup of most medals won for quite a few surveys. Nina Romashkova was the first woman participant to win a gold medal for her country at the Helsinki games in 1952. 12 of 15 different Soviet republics competed in 1992 and came in second place.

Great Britain

This country is third and has won some 689 medals in its overall record of participation in the Olympic Games. Initially, representatives of Great Britain included the Irish, hailing dominantly from Northern Ireland. Britain is one of the countries to have competed in the first ever Olympics, making a name for itself. This team is the only one to have ever managed to always get a gold medal in all the summer games. Great Britain also has a record of never having missed a single Olympics.

France

France comes at fourth, having won 679 medals according to records. This country has a track record of never having missed any of the Olympics Games regardless of where they have been held. For this statement there is only a small hitch on the fact that it cannot be firmly established whether Albert Corey’s participation is to be credited to France or the United States for the 1904 games. Cycling and fencing have been the most popular sports for the French and they have excelled largely in these sports more than any others. The Olympics games have been hosted by France about a total of 5 times. The French have also managed to win 94 medals additionally in the Winter Games.

Germany

Germany has to date won about 648 medals, falling only slightly behind France. Germany has participated since 1896. They have on 3 occasions hosted the event. German participants have won gold, silver and bronze medals in both the summer and winter games.

Italy

Italy has won a total of 595 medals and has competed in all the Olympic Games missing only the 1904 games. Italy has had the honor of hosting the event 3 times. They have won about 228 gold medals which is a staggering total and it makes them 4th in line as far as victories go. Italy has the Italian National Olympic Committee to regulate and deal with its participation in the games every four years. The committee was finalized in 1913. Italy has also participated in the Mediterranean Games.

Sweden

Sweden is next in line with a grand total of 588 medals. Sweden has like many other not left out any Olympic Games and has participated in all of them with the exception of the 1904 games which is did not pay much attention to. They have only hosted the event once. Their established committee was also finalized in 1913.

East Germany

GDR or the German Democratic Republic has a separate Olympic committee to deal with its participation. They have managed to win about 519 medals in their Olympic career.

Hungary

Hungary has participated in most or all summer and winter games since the inception of the Olympics. After World War 1 they were purposely not invited in 1920 and they also boycotted the games in 1984. Fencing has proved over time to be their most popular sport for participation and medal winning. They have won 454 medals and have never had the honor of hosting the game themselves. Nevertheless this is the most medals won by a country that has never been a host.

Finland

Finland comes in last but not least. They have won 446 medals and they began participating in 1908 and have never stopped since. They have hosted the event once. Wrestling and athletics seem to be their areas of expertise and they have won the most medals in these 2 sports. Their Olympic committee came into being properly in 1907.
